Tobacco Amendment Bill 2021
Since 2020, ACCPA has delved into the serious health risk posed by smoking and, in particular, the minimum legal age for cigarette sale and use of menthol in cigarettes as a stimulant to smoking. In February 2021, ACCPA petitioned Kenya’s National Assembly and Senate to review the Tobacco Act of 2007 and Tobacco Regulations 2014 to review the Minimum Legal Access age of cigarettes to 21 years. Moreover, the petition also proposes the prohibition sale of mentholated cigarettes in Kenya.
The petition’s intention is in line with a global trend that ultimately aims to a smoking-free world.
“Considering the petition will go a long way in reducing the number of young people initiated to smoking and inspiring smoke cessation, thereby reducing health and social cost to the nation.”
Executive Chairman, ACCPA
